Band Philosophy Our philosophy is about band and player development we endeavour to improve all our players in both the flute and percussion sections. This is achieved by introducing challenging and interesting music which tests the players individually as well as a cohesive unit. We are committed to contesting as this plays an important part in developing Flute players in tuning, intonation, tone quality, pitching, articulation, etc. Drummers are developed using basic rudiments, exercises etc, and will then learn how to read music.
Learners
Learner players are taught using the 'Tune A day Book' for flute/drum. Classes are geared to the individual's ability and speed of development starting with the basics and building at an appropriate pace with the emphasis on techniques and sound development. All players in the band will learn how to read and count written music. The band does not have a policy of playing 'by ear'.
Experienced players wishing to develop and hone their skills are most welcome and will be given the opportunity and encouragement to improve.
If you're up for a challenge and have a desire to improve as a player just give us a call, there's nothing to fear we will supply all the help, encouragement and support you'll require.
Teaching
Teaching is undertaken by band members with, in some cases, over 35yrs experience. Some started out in B&T bands. Tuition classes are on Thursdays from 8pm-10pm. Full band practice is on Monday nights, same times apply, under the stewardship of one of the country's top conductors, Mr Brian Houston.
